Smash Hits Singles Review July 9, 1981

It's been a while since I did one of these. Here are (most of) the singles mentioned. Regular readers will know 1981 is a little before my time, music-wise, which is why many of these are fairly unfamiliar to me.

The Passions - Skin Deep
Visage - Visage
Original Mirrors - 20,000 Dreamers
Virgin Prunes - Moments and Mine
Jimmy Pursey - Animals Have More Fun
Bette Bright - When You Were Mine
Any Trouble - The Trouble With Love
Troy Tate - Thomas
The Freshies - I Can't Get "Bouncing Babies" By The Teardrop Explodes
The Associates - Q Quarters
Split Enz - One Step Ahead
Icehouse - We Can Get Together

And here's a bonus B-Side that got a mention:
The Freshies - Tell Her I'm Ill

Have a good weekend, everybody!!

Ah, that takes me back. I was in my last year of school in 1981 and buying more vinyl than ever! Troy Tate was brilliant and I'll try an post his album when I get round to it.

I used to like the Freshies too, particularly their "Virgin Megastore" single. As you may well know, vocalist/songwriter Chris Sievey went on to be non other than Frank Sidebottom.

Echo Mickeyten's post. I love it when you do these sort of posts. More power to your scanning elbow.

*thought I'd comment even before I looked at the post itself.* ;-)

Well that settles it: for the moment, the singles page will be a weekly feature - look for it every Friday night. I'll pick from Smash Hits, Record Mirror or No1 magazine. BTW, the scans aren't all mine - I bought quite a lot from different people to help me discover new interesting records for my collection.
